            Senior Scientist, William (Bill) C. Kerr, PhD, is Director of ARG’s National Alcohol Research Center and Co-Directs the National Alcohol Survey and the Health Disparities projects.  Bill also serves as the scientific director at ARG and continues to lead R01 projects, including a grant to investigate secondhand harms from alcohol and other drugs.

            Senior Scientist Nina Mulia, DrPH, is Center Associate Director and Director of the Alcohol Services project. She specializes in and has published widely on race and ethnicity and socioeconomic disparities in heavy drinking, alcohol problems, and alcohol services utilization.

          • ASSESSING HID OVER THE LIFECOURSE

            This project, led by Camillia Lui, PhD, traces trends in harmful drinking patterns over a 40-year period, and identifies a range of alcohol-related precursors and problems through event-based and population-based approaches to inform early screening and interventions for high-risk groups.

            Scientist and Deputy Scientific Director, Priscilla Martinez, oversees the survey design, data collection, and analyses.  In the latest cycle of the NAS, Priscilla conducted dried blood spot sampling to help better understand the relationship between how our immune systems work and what role they might play in how alcohol use can affect our mental health.

Researchers Present at AP17

In early April, researchers from around the world met in Arlington, Virginia for the 17th  annual Alcohol Policy (AP) Conference.  ARG scientists were among the presenters and featured Center Director William C. ARG Receives Five-Year Grant

ARG is pleased to announce it has received a $7.3M grant from the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) to support the continuation of its National Alcohol Research Center. The funds will be dispersed over a five year period beginning this year through to 2020. ARG Scientists Present at APHA

New Grant Awarded to Study Cannabis Use & Treatment Outcomes

Congratulations to ARG Biostatistician Meenakshi Sabina Subbaraman, PhD,  who  received a grant to study how cannabis use affects alcohol treatment outcomes. The new project, funded by the National Institute of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (R21 AA023039), will use advanced statistical methods to better understand how cannabis use among individuals recovering from alcohol use disorders affects drinking after treatment. Alcohol & Pregnancy Grant Funded

William C. Kerr heads up the ARG team on a new study in collaboration with Sarah Roberts, Assistant Professor, Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). Environmental Effects on AUD

Scientist Katherine Karriker-Jaffe received a subaward for a project that seeks to clarify how environmental adversity at the individual, family and community level and genetic risk jointly contribute to the development of alcohol use disorders (AUD).
