In a broad examination of the association between alcoholism treatment drinking outcomes and social relationships (1,919 associations, 207 projects), the author finds the effect of social relationships to be variable, inconsistent, and weak, except for some subpopulations and constructs, which merit further study.

Compared to the traditional public sector system of one California county, the costs for the index treatment episode in another county with managed care were significantly lower; cost-effectiveness also favored the county with managed care.

This analysis suggests that, at lower consumption levels, risk of injury increases proportionally with increased alcohol consumption, but a threshold effect is achieved at relatively low levels of mean daily consumption and higher consumption times.

Differences in self-reporting rates of vehicular offenses are found to be larger for Hispanics compared to whites. BAC levels are also found to be underreported among Hispanics compared to whites. Country of origin for Hispanics is a significant factor in underreporting.
