Madhabika B. Nayak, Ph.D.

Madhabika Nayak is an associate scientist with significant international experience. Before joining ARG, she served on the faculty at Kuwait University and as a consultant and staff member at various research organizations in India.

Her research, clinical, and teaching interests pertain to health issues, including interpersonal violence and cultural factors that affect both drinking and health. Nayak's recent work has focused on problematic and risky drinking and relationships in the contexts of alcohol use, interpersonal violence, and health.

In 2003, she completed two small pilot studies in India on alcohol patterns and health outcomes and was co-investigator on the India component of a 30-country study on gender and alcohol (GENACIS). A more recently completed National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA)-funded collaborative research project on HIV risk and drinking patterns in Goa, India has extended her work in India on alcohol use and health outcomes.

Nayak completed her undergraduate training in psychology at India's Delhi
University and received her doctorate in clinical psychology at Northern Illinois University in 1994. She then completed specialized training in the assessment and treatment of victims of crime at the Medical University of South Carolina. She has been licensed as a clinical psychologist in the state of California since 2003.
