Research
The average
alcohol content of liquor has varied significantly from year to year and
state to state, due in part to changes in the popularity of specific
types of liquor.
New estimates suggest
1950s beer contained more alcohol, and wine and liquor in the 1980s and
1990s contained less alcohol, than has been suggested previously in
government studies, say William Kerr, Ph.D. and colleagues
See below for link to more information on
the article by William Kerr and ARG colleagues Thomas K. Greenfield and Jennifer Tujague
published September 2006 in
Alcoholism: Clinical and Experimental Research.
Hispanics who immigrate to the United States
undergo the pressures of acculturation. While the drinking habits
of Latino men do not significantly change, as Latinas become more
acculturated, they tend to drink more. See below for link to more
information on the article by Sarah Zemore published December 2005 in
Alcoholism: Clinical and Experimental Research.
Perhaps moderate drinking does not have
beneficial health effects after all. Through meta-analysis, a
systemic error in study design, specifically the composition of control,
abstainer populations, has been found by an international team,
including ARG scientist William Kerr. For further information, see
the link below. The article, now available as an online preview, will be
published in Addiction Research and Theory, May 2006.
